A thoughtful start to insurance clauses and terms.

Thoughtful dental care in Warren, Michigan, designed to feel clear, comfortable, and personal from the first hello.

Good to know

You just received new insurance, and you’ve got dental coverage! Along with your new card came a thick packet explaining your benefits, and it is packed full of the “fine print.” Most people have a hard time understanding dental insurance, so we have decided to use an example that may help.

Review Your Benefits

Insurance packets can feel dense, so look for limitations, exclusions, deductibles, and annual maximums before scheduling treatment.

We Can Help

Bring your insurance questions to your visit, and our team can help explain how your plan may apply to recommended care.

Let’s say your hot water tank starts leaking. The good news is your hot water tank is still under warranty and can be replaced. The bad news is that the carpet in your newly finished basement is soaked and needs to be replaced. Given this situation, let’s look at the fine print and common clauses in many dental insurance policies.

Diagnostic

These include simple cleanings, exams, and X-rays, and are usually covered 80-100% of the fabricated fee.

Basic

These include fillings and root canals, and are typically covered 60-80%.

Major

Included in this category are crowns, bridges, dentures, and gum treatments. On average, these types of services are covered 0-50% of the insurance company's fee.

Exclusions

This simply means procedures that are not covered. It is common that over 50% of dental procedure codes are not covered by insurance. The most common procedures not covered by insurance are cosmetic, but can also include dental implants and treatment for gum disease.

Recently, my son had his six-month exam and cleaning. All went well. As always, his experiences with Dr. Sable and hygienist Nicole are professional, kind, and friendly. This also includes treatment of myself and, without a doubt, all other patients. Julie and Ashley at the front desk are also a friendly and competent asset to Dr. Sable's practice.

Broke a tooth while up north. Called and left a message that I needed to have it taken care of. Dr. Sable called me Sunday afternoon and set up an appointment for Monday at noon. Now, that's what I call taking care of your customers. They go the extra mile to make sure that you are taken care of properly. Great doctor and staff. You can't go wrong trusting them with your care.
